Understanding the dashboard

The WIP Movement Dashboard serves as a reporting management tool to track WIP activity across production and billing. It provides insights into which jobs are most active, who is contributing the most to WIP, and how WIP levels change over a specific period.

Why is it important?

The WIP Movement Dashboard allows you to:

  • Easily identify which jobs are most active and where resources are being utilised, ensuring better decision-making and planning.

  • Monitoring WIP changes over time helps uncover patterns, enabling proactive adjustments to workflows, resource allocation, and billing strategies to optimise efficiency and profitability.

Dashboard FAQs

  • Is High WIP Movement good or bad?

    • High WIP movement doesn’t necessarily indicate good or bad performance—it simply means a large amount of work has been recorded but not yet billed, leading to accumulated WIP. While it shows productivity, consistently high WIP without billing may indicate a delay in invoicing, which can impact cash flow. Low WIP movement, on the other hand, may suggest insufficient work being recorded.

  • What is the formula for WIP Added?

    • WIP Added is the billable amount added to the WIP Balance through timesheets and disbursements, tracking a firm's gross production before invoicing.

Formula: WIP Added = Sum of Billable Amount from each WIP recorded in time, disbursement, and interims at the record date.

  • What is the formula for WIP Billing?

    • WIP Billing is the invoiced amount derived from WIP, including time, disbursements, and applied interims.

Formula: WIP Billing = Sum of invoice amounts directly from billing Time, Disbursement and Interims WIP.

  • What is the formula for WIP Movement?

    • WIP Movement is the net change in the WIP Balance over a period, indicating either growing unbilled work or increased billing and reduced workload. Formula: WIP Movement = WIP added - WIP Invoiced or Removed.
